Helping Communities

The Support You Need To Support Industry

Providing sustainable development by serving business & open source community needs

A Passion for Connecting Business To Open Source Communities

Many years ago we helped create the SciPy conference. While at Anaconda, we helped create PyData and NumFOCUS.  We have been part of the Python community for decades. We see the great human benefit of working with open-source communities and want to make sure they flourish; by providing them with resources from the businesses who depend on them. We have spent over 15 years working on the problem of open-source sustainability and have discovered several related business-centric models that work, but these methods require close attention to continue building the communities they help sustain.

We have a passion for connecting businesses to open source communities. As integral members of the Python community, we have created something special at Quansight.

More recently, our founders helped create a 30+ person Community Innovation Lab that was entirely self-sustaining and enabled the creation of Numba, Dask, Conda, JupyterLab, Bokeh, Odo, Holoviews, Geoviews, as well as other projects. This team also did Research & Development on Blaze, Data-fabric, DyND, and other lesser-known projects while simultaneously spending some time maintaining and improving Spyder, Pandas, Jupyter, SciPy, SymPy, NumPy, and many other projects of interest to team members.

This same group continues at the foundation of Anaconda Inc.'s consistent open-source efforts.

At Anaconda, Community Innovation arose as a side-effect of our product-building and consulting activities. At Quansight, we are pursuing community-centric innovation by strategically coordinating with our clients, teams, organizations, communities, and partners.

Respect, Support, and Innovation

We have developed a deep respect for open source communities, their independent governance, and development processes. Our developers have spent over 20 years working with, creating, and nurturing open source projects. We have helped create and maintain many open source projects in data science and data engineering, some of which are listed above. We love to learn about how each open-source community works, and have observed common patterns. We help our clients and customers respect, participate in, and appropriately influence the different governance processes of the communities they support.

Open Participation

We work with communities to help organize, publicize, and coordinate their roadmaps with companies who will help fund them; to better achieve their goals. If you would like us to present your project roadmap to people who would be interested in funding its development, please contact us. We employ community members to work on open source directly within our Quansight Labs. We also provide funding and support for other open source labs and freelance developers.  Contact us at info@quansight.com

Open Feedback

We are constantly looking for feedback, as we seek to better serve the communities and businesses we help. Through ongoing surveys and open dialog, if you have any suggestions or concerns about our approach or methods, we greatly appreciate your comments.
