Open Source software is at the foundation of modern computing frameworks and applications. We have had the privilege of participating in these communities and understand personally the need for people to be funded to work on these projects.

Quansight Labs was created as a public-benefit division of Quansight to provide a home for a "PyData Core Team" which consists of developers, community managers, designers, and documentation writers who build open-source technology and grow open-source communities around all aspects of the AI and Data Science workflow.

We are funded by grants, donations, industry-sponsorships, Quansight's innovative Open Source Partnerships, as well as open-source support subscriptions. Profits from Quansight other operations also help fund Quansight Labs.

We collaborate with the non-profit NumFOCUS which the management team at Quansight founded and helped run during it's early years. We also partner with other related Labs efforts (such as Ursa Labs) and can direct resources to them according to sponsors interests.
Quansight Labs is a public benefit division of Quansight and governed by open-source community leaders and industry sponsors.

"It's hard to overstate the impact of Travis Oliphant's work: from his founding contributions to NumPy and SciPy almost two decades ago, to his more recent influence in the development of open tools like conda, Dask, and Bokeh, to his co-founding of the NumFOCUS organization and PyData conference series, his work and vision have influenced nearly every aspect of the scientific computing world. I have high hopes for what he and his colleagues will accomplish through Quansight Labs."
"The impact of the open source PyData/SciPy stack continues to grow, reaching virtually every corner of research, education and industry. Yet we struggle with finding models for its sustainable development that support open communities, offer career paths beyond volunteering (a luxury many can't afford), integrate with traditional research, and lead industry to contribute back with fairness and responsibility.
Travis has been at the forefront of this effort for almost two decades, creating both tools and institutions that break down barriers. I am excited to see Quansight Labs encapsulate his experience and explore new models, and look forward to the contributions the Quansight Labs team will make."
